'Enemy country'!!

Two days ago an Emirates plane carrying Minister for External Affairs, S M Krishna along with other passengers had make an emergency landing in Karachi, the port city of Pakistan, on the way to Delhi.

Its very normal for such landings to take place for any flight in bad weather conditions. The question that immediately struck my mind when I read about it was:

"What would have gone on in the mind of the Minister when he was told the plane was being diverted to Karachi?"

I have very recently read 'In the line of Fire' an autobiography by Pervej Musharraf. In the book he chronicles the happenings in 1999 when the plane he was on wasn't allowed to land in Pakistan which set off events that ended in Musharraf assuming power as a military dictator.

When on that eventful flight from Colombo to Pakistan the pilot receives word from the air traffic controllers not land in Pakistan and instead go to Mumbai which he loyally conveys to Musharraf.

To this Musharraf reportedly said "To enemy country, India ? You will go there over my dead body".

Even in such a crisis situation Musharraf did not let his pilot think for a minute that he would agree to land in India. Such is the animosity they bear towards our country. For a military man that would have been an easier stance.

So I was wondering to know what was running in the back of S M Krishna's head.


p.s I must add here that reading a book in which the writer would call India an enemy did not make a comfortable reading at all, but it wasn't a bad book. It was a good PR job Musharraf did for his country through his book.
