India loss to South Africa: a loss that was meant to be

India today lost to South Africa in the third one-day international cricket match after fielding a relatively inexperienced team owing to its decision to rest 'senior' players.

True, that we had already won the three match series by wins in the first two matches. Also true that we need to give youngsters a few chances and try them out. But nothing can explain the apathetic approach to the match that the team had made. One cannot call it just another bad day. Because this was a loss out of our own making. It shows how lightly the seniors of the team take international cricket. I for one would not have uttered a single word if there is a big international series in the offing which makes it necessary to rest the best players of the team.

What is coming up is the IPL - the Bollywood (-ised) version of cricket. The money churner which nobody wants to miss even if it meant that the national team's prospects are at risk for sitting out.

The team management's endorsement to the decision to rest the players is not surprising at all given that they themselves are more inclined to money churners than serious international cricket.

The result of such tendencies is there for all of us to see. A depleted team with a depleted all round performance.

The only thing to cheer about today's match is the rare synchronization between the various departments of the game of our team: bowling, fielding and batting, all of them being pathetic.

One has to realise that beyond wins and losses there is something called 'commitment', the lack of which made sure we lost the game miserably.

Jobless Balasaheb Bal Thackeray has been trying to be in the news one way or the other. His attempts at attracting attention or displaying his stupidity are only getting more and more desperate.

Two days ago he had gone after Shahrukh khan for speaking in support of Pakistan cricket team players. Then his party slams Aamir khan on the same issue.

Now he is jumping on to Mukesh ambani's shoulders because Mukesh said Mumbai belongs to all Indians just like Delhi or Chennai.

Why can't the old man spare us of his wisdom at this age?

Hyderbad should be a free zone

There is so many jobs created and opportunities available in Hyderabad because it is the capital of the state of Andhra Pradesh. Then how could somebody claim sole ownership to the whole city when all of us together built it into what it is now?

The argument relating to the existence of Charminar, High court buildings, Golconda fort etc. well before it was made the capital  of the state and hence makes it a fiefdom of people of any one region is stupid for the simple reason that these buildings are a part of the city called Hyderabad and not vice-versa. How many stomachs will the Charminar structure help feed everyday as opposed to the, lets say, secretariat or hitec city which were built more recently.

Isn't it simple logic. Why do people pretend like they don't understand it?

I am for making Hyderabad a free zone in the state. So should the capital city of every state be.

Ilayaraja's 'Padma' too little too late

If Ilayaraja is awarded 'Padma Bhushan' I wonder what more should he achieve to be eligible for 'Padma Vibhushan'.

They will probably wait until A.R.Rahman gets another Oscar award and then give them both the Vibhushan award, one out of intention and the other out of compulsion!!

Please stop extolling Pakistan : they don't deserve it

While talking about the treatment meted out to the Pakistan cricket team players by IPL franchisees - not one of them bid for a Pakistan player - Shahrukh Khan, himself an IPL team owner, spoke in favor of improving relations between the two countries. One the sidelines he said his family was from Pakistan and his father was born there.

I don't understand this. Technically, his father couldn't have been born in Pakistan which was created only after bifurcating India which happened on 14th August 1947. Until then the entire territory was 'India' and in my humble opinion can only be called or referred to as 'India'.

Unless with an intention of sucking up to a Pakistani audience, I do not see a reason why he should go to town claiming to be of Pakistani descent.

I remember the days in the past when some senseless leaders from the congress party called L K Advani a foreigner because he was born in a part of the then India which  is now Pakistan, as a retaliation of the latter's comments on Sonia Gandhi's foreign origin. In this case, Mr Advani lived in what was then a new country, Pakistan, for a few months before his family moved to India. That doesn't make him a foreigner either.

Unless otherwise somebody is sucking up to somebody else or being just their dumb selves, there is no logic behind such interpretations. So everybody, please top sucking up to Pakistan or giving them some sort of an indirect credit or merit.
