Declare 'bandhs' illegal ...

OK. A bandh was called for by all the political parties in Telangana. It was observed more or less peacefully with the exception of some sporadic incidents.

Now that it is over, can anybody from those parties and organisations that called for the bandh please explain the gains achieved from observing a bandh in the region.

Each and every bandh, whoever calls for it and wherever its called for, stalls public life and local economies for no reason affecting badly the livelihoods of lakhs of people who live on daily wages. We have seen how severe losses had been inflicted upon the APSRTC, which is already a bankrupt organisation in its own way.

Its high time governments in power enact legislations prohibiting bandhs by anyone, for any reason and at any place. The act of calling for a bandh should be declared illegal and as against basic human rights in a developing country like ours. Such organisations' registration be cancelled and their leaders be prosecuted.

Only then will this stupid game come to an end.
